Walk-Off Grandslam Hands Cal State East Bay CCAA Loss

SEASIDE, Calif. –
Randall Packard hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Cal State Monterey past Cal State East Bay 9-5 in the finale of a four-game CCAA series on April 17. The victory enabled the Otters to split the four-game series.

The Pioneers took advantage of a Cal State Monterey Bay error to grab a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Cal State Monterey scored twice to take a 2-1 lead and added three more runs in the sixth inning.

Cal State East Bay cut the Otters' lead to 5-4 with three runs in the eighth inning. Nick McManus opened the inning with a double and scored on an Andrew Woolfe double. Skyler Ellis followed with a walk. Both runners advanced on a pass ball. Scott Shields doubled to drive in Woolfe and Ellis.

Woolfe singled home Lincoln Clapper to tie the game in the ninth inning.

Packard won the game for the Otters with a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.

Woolfe was 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Shields had three hits in four plate appearances with two runs scored while McManus had a pair of doubles.

The Pioneers are 11-25 in CCAA play and 13-30 for the season. Cal State Monterey Bay stands at 13-14 in the CCAA and 16-20 overall.

Cal State East Bay will conclude its home season with a four-game series against Chico State beginning on April 21.
