Pioneers Defeated by Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-2

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer baseball team lost to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-4 in the series finale on April 10.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, which won three out of four games in the series, is 14-18 in the CCAA and 18-21 for the season.

East Bay stands at 8-22 in CCAA play and 10-27 overall.

After the Toros scored an unearned run in the top of the first, the Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Charlie Sharrer opened the inning with a walk and later scored on a Lincoln Clapper single.

Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 5-1 lead with four runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a Jonathan Keener three-run home run.

Nick McManus led off the bottom of the eighth with a base hit and came home on a Jared Berrier infield out.

Kevin Pillar hit a two-run double in the ninth to secure the victory for the Toros.

The Pioneers stranded nine base runners including the bases loaded in the seventh and two in the ninth inning.

Pioneer starting pitcher Bryce Miller allowed four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. Clapper and Chris Houston each had two hits.

Cal State East Bay will host Sonoma State on April 12 in a makeup doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
