POMONA, Calif. – The Pioneer baseball team couldn't overcome a hot Bronco offense, losing to their Southern California opponent 19-3, on April 1.
Cal Poly Pomona, which scored a season-high 19 runs, improved to 11-10 in the CCAA and 17-10 overall.
East Bay stands at 6-17 in the CCAA and 8-22 for the season.
Leading 1-0, the Broncos exploded for six runs in the second inning highlighted by a Jenzen Torres grand- slam.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth on a
Lincoln Clapper RBI double.
Torres led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run. Mike Santora drove in two more runs with a double as the Broncos scored five runs in the fifth to open up a 12-2 lead.
East Bay scored its final run in the eighth on a
Nick McManus home run, his first of the season.
McManus had a pair of hits for the Pioneers.
The two teams resume their four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 at the Bronco's Scolinos Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
