TURLOCK, Calif. – The Pioneer baseball team was swept by Cal State Stanislaus 3-0 and 10-2 in a CCAA doubleheader on February 26.
Cal State Stanislaus hurlers Andrew Stueve and Leonard Giamanco combined to shutout the Pioneers on three hits in the opener.
The Pioneers received another solid pitching performance from
Bryce Miller who allowed three runs on five hits in his second complete game of the season.
The Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a run scoring single by Colton Beatty. Cal State Stanislaus added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick McManus had a pair of hits while
Charlie Sharrer hit his fifth double of the season.
In the second game, the Warriors erupted for four runs in the bottom of the third. David Contreras and Beatty each had two-run singles in the third.
The Pioneers scored their two runs in the fourth inning.
Dylan Johnson and
Hector Iribe each drove in a run.
Cal State Stanislaus added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Pioneers'
Josh Rush had a pair of hits including a double.
Thomas Shull was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored for the Warriors. Contreras drove in three runs.
With the doubleheader sweep, Cal State Stanislaus improves to 3-1 in CCAA play and 9-1 for the season.
Cal State East Bay stands at 1-5 in the CCAA and 3-10 overall.
The two teams will conclude their four game series on February 27 with a doubleheader at Cal State East Bay beginning at 10:00 a.m.
