Pioneers Drop Series Finale to Central Washington

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer baseball team lost to Central Washington 12-4 on February 13 to conclude a four-game series.

Central Washington, which won three out of four games over Cal State East Bay, evened its record at 3-3. The Pioneers concluded a seven-game home stand and have a 2-5 record for the season.

Trailing 3-0, the Pioneers pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lincoln Clapper opened the inning with a walk and later scored on an infield out.

The Wildcats blew the game wide open with four runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

East Bay scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Chris Houston hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Nick McManus.

The Pioneers received a good outing from starting pitcher Zach Aguirre who allowed two earned runs on five hits and five strikeouts in six innings of work.

McManus, Clapper and Houston all had two hits for the Pioneers.

The Wildcats' Palmer Brown picked up his first win allowing one run on six hits in six innings. David Leid was 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in three runs.

Cal State East Bay will open conference play with a four-game series at UC San Diego beginning on February 18. The Tritons are the defending CCAA Champions and the 2010 Division II national runner up.
