Monday Finals Results
SOUTH GATE, Calif. - Three days of outstanding individual performances enabled the Pioneer women's swim team to finish third out of eight teams at the Finis Invitational on December 12.
East Bay finished the three-day completion with 1135 points, 483 better than fourth place Cal Lutheran University. Cal Poly SLO won the Invitational with 2760 points.
For a small squad, we showed a lot of energy during the three days,” Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz said. “We broke five school records and recorded several season and personal bests. Our team really turned it around and earned third place against outstanding competition.”
A fifth school record was broken during the Invitational as the Pioneers' 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team consisting of
Alyssa Tenney,
Sara Bonino,
Bethany Hoopman and
Jenel Lopez recorded a time of 3:37.89 to earn third place honors. The old record was 3:38.58 set in 1985. Hoopman broke a school record with a 27.56 split in the 50 Yard Backstroke on December 11.
Tenney came within one second of breaking a school record in the 200 Yard Back. She posted a time of 2:08.46, good for fourth place. Backstroke on December 11, bettered her season best by five seconds with a time of 2:11.91 to finish in 6th place.
Christine Gee placed 11th with a season best of 2:22.69.
Lopez took fifth in the 100 Yard Freestyle in 53.06 while
Jasmine Stowers recorded a season best 57.17 to finish in 13th.
In the 200 Yard Breastroke,
Rachel Knowles had a season best 2:28.43 to take third place honors.
Stephanie Lau also recorded a season best of 2:38.08, good for eighth place.
Bonino was clocked in 18:54.73 to finish eighth in the 1650 Yard Freestyle. Her time of 10:39.24 in the 1000 Yard Freestyle was .44 seconds shy of a NCAA II B qualifying time.
Madelyn Mooers placed eighth in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:38.08.
