OAKLAND, Calif. - Impressive individual performances highlighted a third place performance by the Pioneer women's swimming team at the Bay Area Invitational on Saturday.

Alyssa Tenney was also a double winner, in both backstroke events. Tenney finished 2nd in the 400-yd. I.M. with a time of 4:46, two seconds off the school record.
Sara Bonino had a tremendous time in winning the mile event, quite near her conference mark from last year. Bonino also captured the 500-yd. Freestyle with her season best time.
Bethany Hoopman took the 200 Yard Backstroke while
Rachel Knowles was a consistent performer in both breastrokes.
Pioneer coach
Ben Loorz was impressed with the Pioneers performance at the Bay Area Invitational.
“We swam quite well this afternoon. I am impressed with how this team adapts to increased training workloads, and then turns around and continues to improve themselves in racing scenarios. That is a difficult thing to do, but they are doing it. We were beaten today by a much larger (3-4 times larger!) Santa Cruz squad today, but the invitational-style scoring of this event really favors depth. I am very excited to meet Santa Cruz for our first home dual meet in a few weeks (Nov.19th), as the dual meet structure favors quality over quantity. We out-touched Santa Cruz in 9 out of 12 events today, and if we can do that again in a few weeks, it should be a very competitive meet.”
