Deja Thompson was one of several players on the Pioneer volleyball team to turn in strong performances this past week. She had eight kills and six blocks last Tuesday as the Pioneers suffered a tough road loss at Humboldt State. The team bounced back and pulled off an upset of first-place Sonoma State in five sets on Friday, before sweeping SF State in three sets on Saturday. Thompson tallied 16 kills and six blocks against the Seawolves, and then she led the Pioneers with 14 kills, six more blocks, and a .565 hitting percentage against the Gators. For the week, Thompson averaged 3.17 kills/set to go along with 18 blocks, three service aces, and a .213 hitting percentage.Â
This is the second East Bay Athlete of the Week award this season for Thompson. She was previously honored for her outstanding play in Oregon during the week of Sept. 4-10, a performance that also earned Thompson her second career CCAA Player of the Week award.
