Kelly Starnes had a monster weekend for Cal State East Bay, leading the baseball team to a four-game split with Cal Poly Pomona, which entered the weekend ranked No. 11 in the nation. The junior had three multi-hit games and finished 8-for-12 in the series, good for a .667 batting average and .714 on-base percentage. Starnes scored four runs, drove in four runs, stole two bases, played errorless defense in centerfield, and even threw out a runner at second base. The Pittsburg native also hit the first two home runs of his collegiate career, giving him a 1.250 slugging percentage for the weekend. Starnes leads the team with 16 runs scored this season, and he's second with 13 walks and six stolen bases. He raised his batting average 71 points in four games against the Broncos.Â
