SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Cal State East Bay split Friday's doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino, rallying for an 8-6 win in the opener before falling 9-2 in game two at Fiscalini Field.
The opener turned in the middle innings.
After trailing 6-3 through five, East Bay flipped the game in the sixth with a four-run surge. Micah Cervantes delivered the biggest swing of the inning, driving in two with a single to center, and later scored as the Pioneers erased the deficit and moved in front.
They added one more in the seventh for breathing room.
Dylan Unangst finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Cervantes also collected three hits and drove in three. Caleb Chance added three hits as East Bay totaled 13 in the win.
On the mound, the bullpen carried the finish. Gamboa started and worked into the fifth inning before Parmenter bridged the middle. Jackson Juric earned the win with four scoreless innings in relief, and AJ Gamboa closed out the final three innings to secure the save.
The second game shifted early and never swung back.
East Bay jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first behind a two-run single from Cristian Angulo, but San Bernardino answered immediately and took control with a five-run third inning.
The Coyotes continued to add on in the fifth, extending the lead to 9-2 while limiting East Bay's offense the rest of the way.
Marc DiCarlo Jr. led the Pioneers with two hits, while Angulo accounted for both RBIs. East Bay finished with six hits in the game.
