SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Cal State East Bay dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino, falling 14-6 in the opener before a 12-7 decision in game two at Fiscalini Field.
Game one turned quickly in the first inning.
East Bay pushed across a run to open the game, but San Bernardino answered with five in the bottom half and held control the rest of the way. The Coyotes added two more in the fifth and pulled away late.
The Pioneers finished with 12 hits, led by Marc DiCarlo Jr., who recorded three, including a solo home run in the ninth. Caleb Chance and Dylan Unangst each drove in runs as East Bay continued to produce offensively despite the deficit.
The second game followed a similar pattern, with momentum shifting in the middle innings.
East Bay built a 7-0 lead through five innings, scoring in four of the first five frames. DiCarlo Jr. again led the offense with three hits, while Cristian Angulo added two hits and two RBIs.
San Bernardino answered with a seven-run fifth to even the game, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Coyotes continued to add on with three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to take control.
East Bay totaled 10 hits in the game, with Chance and DiCarlo Jr. each finishing with multiple hits.
Cal State East Bay returns home next week to host Chico State in a CCAA series.
