MEET RECAP: Pioneers Open 2026 Season in Cal All Comers Meet

BERKELEY, Calif. — Cal State East Bay opened its 2026 track and field season Saturday at the Cal All Comers meet at Edwards Stadium, turning in several top‑three finishes across both track and field events to begin the new campaign.

The Pioneers had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters with their first win on the oval, where Angelique Martinez won in 10:24.44, followed by Madison Gomez in 10:28.22 for second.

In the javelin, Savannah Garcia earned the team's other event win, throwing 35.72 meters to claim first.

The field events produced additional podium finishes for Cal State East Bay, including a pair from Julia Carmona, who placed second in the long jump at 5.06 meters and second again in the triple jump at 11.09 meters. Garcia added a third-place showing in the long jump at 4.90 meters, while Jimena Ortiz‑Guardado opened her season by placing third in the hammer throw with a mark of 30.96 meters.

Next, the Pioneers will take part in the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 6–7 at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, and will also be represented at the Golden Gate Track Fest on March 6 at Cox Stadium in San Francisco. Athlete entries for both meets will be announced closer to competition.
