MEET RECAP: Women's Cross Country Opens 2025 Season on Saturday Night

CERES, Calif. - At River Oaks Golf Course, the 2025 Kim Duyst Cross Country Twilight Invitational took place under the lights. Among 14 teams, Cal State East Bay women's cross country finished 10th in team scoring and third among five NCAA Division II teams entered in an 6k run. 
  • Leading the Pioneers with the fastest finish among the team was Angelique Martinez, achieving a personal best time of 21 minutes, 49.4 seconds. It was also a personal record for Martinez, who's previous best 6k time was 24:11.0. 
  • Madison Gomez placed 49th in 22:26.9, as the second lowest time among East Bay runners on Saturday. 
  • Finishing 2.1 seconds faster than her previous best 6k time was Yamilet Deniz, with a time of 22:44.2. 
  • Making a Pioneer debut on the course were Grace Veloza (23:25.1), Genevieve Tamondong (24:12.3) and Jacklyn Velasquez (26:18.7)
Meet host Stanislaus State won the team scoring. Unattached runner Iresh Molina won the 6k in 20:33.7. 

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, September 27 in the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Oregon at Ash Creek Preserve. Start time for the women's 6k is set for 11 a.m.
