Martinez Paces Pioneers at NCAA West Regional Championships

MONMOUTH, Ore. — The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team capped its 2025 season with a determined performance at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on Saturday morning at Ash Creek Preserve. Facing one of the deepest fields in the nation, the Pioneers finished 21st overall with a team score of 531 points, highlighted by a standout effort from Angelique Martinez.
 
Martinez led East Bay across the line in 32nd place, clocking a personal-best 21:22.31 over the 6K course. The senior closed her career on a high note, finishing with the fifth best time in program history in the 6K.
 
Hope Brookins was the team's next finisher, placing 116th in 22:48.36, while Madison Gomez followed close behind in 119th (22:49.79), both setting personal bests.  Jenna Rodriguez was next, finishing 128th (22:57.70), while Grace Veloza rounded out East Bay's scoring five in 140th (23:10.64).
 
Yamilet Deniz (23:21.80, 151st) and Genevieve Tamondong (23:29.78, 155th) also competed for the Pioneers.
 
Chico State captured the regional title with 40 points, followed by Cal Poly Pomona (86) and Western Washington (140) to round out the top three teams.
