10/24/2025 4:24:00 PM

CHICO, Calif. — Cal State East Bay women's cross country raced to fifth-place finish at the 2025 CCAA Championships on Friday morning at Hooker Oak Park. The Pioneers compiled a team score of 154 points, narrowly edging Cal State Monterey Bay (155) in a tightly contested race.

Angelique Martinez led the way for East Bay, placing 22nd overall with a time of 22:53.3 over the 6K course. Martinez moved up steadily through the middle miles, finishing as the top Pioneer for the third time this season.

Right behind her was Madison Gomez, who clocked 23:22.5 to take 28th place, with Hope Brookins crossing the line at the exact same time to grab 29th. The two ran stride for stride for much of the race, providing critical depth for East Bay's scoring lineup.

Rounding out the scoring five were Yamilet Deniz in 37th (23:35.4) and Jenna Rodriguez in 38th (23:36.2), giving the Pioneers a tight 43-second spread among their top five finishers. Grace Veloza (52nd, 24:22.9) and Genevieve Tamondong (57th, 24:38.4) completed East Bay's top seven.

Host Chico State captured the team title with 25 points, followed by Stanislaus State (39) and Cal Poly Pomona (85).

The Pioneers will now turn its attention to the NCAA West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Oregon on November 8.
