LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Cal State East Bay men's golf traveled to New Mexico for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South Central/West Regional at University Golf Course. After day one, the Pioneers are tied for 13
th along with Cal State San Marcos and Sonoma State
- Cooper Groshart led the Pioneers with a 1-over-par 72 which tied him for 25th on the leaderboard with 13 other golfers. He was tied for seventh on the day with 13 pars.
- Adam Brangefalt and Melker Backstrom each shot a 3-over-par 74 which tied them for 45th. Backstrom was also one of eight golfers to shot an eagle on the day, as his birdie was on hole #12.
- Groshart, Brangefalt and Easton Hether had two birdies each among the 18 holes played.
Western New Mexico leads the team competition after a round and Joey Geary of WNMU sits atop the leaderboard at 6-under-par 65, with six birdies.
The Pioneers will play the second round of the NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional on Friday. The first tee time is set for 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time, but the first tee time for Cal State East Bay is set for 8:20 a.m. MT (7:20 a.m. Pacific).
