POMONA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball traveled to Southern California for a four-game CCAA series against Cal Poly Pomona. The Pioneers defeated the Broncos 7-2 in the series opener from Scolinos Field on Friday evening.
The Pioneers opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Danelle Daniels hit an RBI triple,
Luke Novitske singled for an RBI and Novitske scored after a fielder's choice RBI from
Sam Gilliam.
The Pioneers added a run in the top of the third inning on a
Brenden Bell RBI single to left field that drove in Novitske for a 4-0 lead.
The Broncos got two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, CSUEB added a run in the top of the seventh inning on Novitske's second RBI single of the game to drive in Daniels for a 5-2 lead.
Matthew O'Mahony hit solo home run to left center field in the top of the eighth inning, which was his sixth home run of the season for a 6-2 lead.
Novitske got his third RBI of the game in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice bunt to drive in
Jaylen Hodges for a 7-2 lead, which ultimately became the final score of the series opener.
- Gabe Tanner improved to 5-0 on the season with a complete game on the mound, striking out seven batters and allowing two runs.
- Novitske led the Pioneers' offense going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
- Daniels hit a single, double and a triple on Friday.
