POMONA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay played the second day of their CCAA series against Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos won game one 12-6 and game two in seven innings, 6-0.
Game One – Cal Poly Pomona 12, Cal State East Bay 6
The Broncos took a 2-0 lead in bottom of the second inning and added two runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 4-0 lead, then added one more in the fifth inning, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
The Pioneers' offense would explode in the top of the sixth inning with four runs.
Luke Brown and
Jacob Froess led off the inning with back-to-back walks, then
Luke Novitske singled to load the bases.
Danelle Daniels drove in Brown for the first Pioneer run of the day, then
Matthew O'Mahony hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Froess. Later in the inning,
Brenden Bell and
Niko Mollat hit RBI singles, as the Pioneers trailed 5-4 in the middle of the sixth inning.
Daniels hit a two-run home run down the left field line in the top of the seventh, giving CSUEB its first lead of the day, 6-5.
However, the Broncos took the lead back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the bottom of the eighth for a 12-6 lead. CSUEB was unable to score in the top of the ninth inning and lost, 12-6.
- Daniels led the Pioneers' offense going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
- Novitske scored two runs and had two hits.
Game Two – Cal Poly Pomona 6, Cal State East Bay 0 (7 innings)
The Broncos scored a run in the bottom of the second, added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 6-0. The Pioneers had runners in scoring position in three of the seven innings played but could not plate a run.
- In game two, Daniels went 2-for-2 and through Saturday, is on a nine-game hitting streak and currently has a .398 batting average.
- Daniels also leads the CCAA in triples with five on the season.
