HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay took on Cal State San Marcos in the finale of a CCAA series at Pioneer Baseball Field on Saturday. The Cougars defeated the Pioneers 17-3.
CSUSM took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first,
Luke Brown launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot to put the Pioneers on the scoreboard.
The Cougars' offense then exploded for 14 runs between the third and seventh innings, including eight in the top of the fifth. The Cougars would add their final run in the top of the ninth. I
In the bottom of the ninth,
Donovan Bailey hit a two-run home run, but it would not be enough for the Pioneers, who lost 17-3 to CSUSM on Saturday.
- Jacob Froess, Robert Ellwanger and Aidan Morton, all entering as substitutions at points of the game, had two hits each.
- Bailey's home run was the first of his career at Cal State East Bay.
- The series was shortened to three CCAA games because Friday's game was ultimately canceled with no expectation to make it up.
