LOS ANGELES – Cal State East Bay baseball started a four game CCAA series at Cal State Los Angeles on Friday evening. The Pioneers lost a tight contest 5-4 to the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and added three more in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-0 lead.

Matthew O'Mahony and
Quinn Ayres were on base in the top of the seventh, as
Alex Merchant drew a bases loaded walk for the Pioneers' first run of the game.
Later in the inning, O'Mahony scored on a wild pitch, and Ayres scored as a result of an error at first base in which Brendan Bell reached. The Pioneers trailed 4-3 in the middle of the seventh inning.
The Golden Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to lead 5-3.
In the top of the ninth inning, the bases were loaded with two outs.
Luke Novitske drew a bases loaded walk to bring in
Matthew Olivares, bringing the Pioneers within a run. However, CSUEB was unable to capitalize thereafter and Cal State LA took the series opener, 5-4.
- Luke Brown led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-4 and also drew a walk.
- O'Mahony had one hit in the game, and is currently on a seven game hitting streak.
- On the mound, Gabe Tanner had six strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched.
