HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball played the series finale of a CCAA series against San Francisco State at Pioneer Baseball Field on Sunday and lost 11-5 to the Gators.
After falling behind 2-0, the Pioneers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Danielle Daniels hit an RBI double to left center that scored
Luke Brown to get on the board. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead when
Alonzo Guijarro hit a double down the left field line that drove in Daniels and
Luke Novitske. Following Guijarro's double,
Matthew O'Mahony doubled to right field to drive in Guijarro. Later in the inning,
Jacob Froess singled through the left side for an RBI, giving CSUEB a 5-2 lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, SF State piled up eight runs for a 10-5 lead and added one more run in the top of the ninth for the final run of the game toward an 11-5 win to complete a four-game sweep of the Pioneers in the series.
- Novitske led the Pioneers' offense going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
- On the mound in a no-decision, Derek Murphy pitched 5.2 innings and struck out eight batters.
