ATHERTON, Calif. - Cal State East Bay baseball played the second game of a three game series against Menlo College. The Pioneers defeated the Oaks 11-8 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the top of the second with two runs – one on a
Brenden Bell sacrifice fly to right field that drove in
Matthew O'Mahony and one on a
Jaylen Hodges single up the middle that scored
Jacob Froess.
Though the Oaks scored three runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 lead, the Pioneers would score five runs in the top of the third and three runs in the top of the fourth for a 10-3 lead. Among those runs,
Danelle Daniels,
Matthew Olivares and Froess had RBI hits, Hodges and Bell drove in runs off sacrifice flies and O'Mahony hit his fourth home run of the season, which was of the two-run variety.
Menlo got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Pioneers scored their 11th run on an RBI single from Daniels that drove in
Luke Brown for an 11-4 lead.
The Oaks scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and one in the bottom of the ninth from a leadoff home run, but
Nate Nordell closed out the game with the final three outs as Cal State East Bay won the second game of the series, 11-8.
- Jackson Ellis improved to 2-0 on the season with 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing three runs and striking out six.
- Daniels and Froess each had three hits in the game.
- Through Saturday's action, O'Mahony leads the CCAA in home runs with four.
