SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball played its final road game of the 2023 regular season on Sunday at Cal State San Marcos. The Pioneers won 6-2 over the Cougars, ultimately splitting the four-game CCAA series.
The Pioneers opened the scoring up with three runs in the top of the second inning.
Niko Mollat singled to second base allowing
Matthew O'Mahony to score the first run of the game and two more were added on an
Essex Brown Jr. single up the middle for two RBIs as
Cole Anderson and
Manny Garcia came to the plate.
The Cougars would score a run in the bottom of the second and fourth innings, as the lead for CSUEB was down to 3-2.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Manny Garcia hit an RBI single,
Luke Novitske scored on an error and
Matthew Mandeville hit a sacrifice fly to right field that drove in Garcia for a 6-2 lead which eventually became the final score.
Tristan Tatum pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run for his third win of the season. He had three strikeouts in the win.
- After Sunday's win, the Pioneers are 19-17 tied for third place in the CCAA standings, up three games on Cal State Dominguez Hills, who holds seventh place as each team has four games remaining in conference play.
- All nine batters in the lineup for Cal State East Bay had at least one hit on Sunday.
- Brown Jr. and Novitske had two hits each.

The Pioneers will start their next CCAA series on Thursday when they host Stanislaus State for the final series of the regular season. Thursday's opener is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. from Pioneer Baseball Field.
