4/2/2023 12:28:00 AM

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Cal State East Bay competed in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on Friday and Saturday, placing eighth among 23 teams. Tied for ninth on the leaderboard was Drishti Karumbaya, with the lowest score among the Pioneers of 4-over-par 148.

On Friday, Karumbaya carded an even par 72 that included five birdies and one eagle. She finished the tournament with six.

With the most birdies for Cal State East Bay was Jasmin Krishna with 10.

"We had a solid tournament in a very strong field," said Cal State East Bay head coach Alan Sue. "This is one of the best teams that I have ever coached. Unfortunately we didn't do well in tricky situations this week and consequently had two many double bogeys and higher. These strokes added up and cost us several spots on the leaderboard. We plan to be better in these situations in the future and we get that opportunity in a couple of days."

West Texas A & M placed first in team scoring and Sofia Benavides from Oklahoma Christian was the medalist 1-under-par 143.

This coming Monday and Tuesday, the Pioneers will compete in their final regular season tournament of 2022-23 in the WT Desert Invite, which will be played at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.
