Pioneers Place 3rd at DBU Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Under challenging weather conditions, the Cal State East Bay women's golf team placed third in the DBU Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club.
 
The top finisher for the Pioneers was Julika Grosspietsch, who placed ninth on the leaderboard at 8-over-par 221 (73-68-80). She finished with seven birdies and 33 even par holes of the 54 played.
 
Below are additional highlights for the Pioneers as the tournament concluded.
  • A 10th place tie for Drishti Karumbaya at 9-over-par 222 (72-73-77). Karumbaya had a team-high nine birdies throughout the tournament.
  • A 15th place tie for Jasmin Krishna at 12-over-par 225 (75-73-77). She also made even par on 33 holes.  
  • Mandi Granato finishing in a 20th place tie at 15-over-par 228. Granato had eight birdies in three rounds of action.
 
"The team played an amazing day one," said Cal State East Bay head coach Alan Sue. "Today we fell just short of our goal to win but [gained] some experience that [helps] us later in the season. For us to keep pace with the second best team in the nation [Dallas Baptist] is very impressive and I'm very proud of our team."
 
NCAA Division I Dartmouth won the tournament team championship, followed by Dallas Baptist in second. The medalist was Alli Kim from Point Loma, who finished at even par 213 (72-69-72).
 
Only two tournaments remain the in the 2022-23 regular season for the Pioneers, both of which take place in Arizona. The first of the two is the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, which takes place from March 31-April 1 at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.
