HAYWARD, Calif. - The 2023 season opened for the Cal State East Bay men's track team in the Chabot Opener on Saturday. Among 18 teams, the Pioneers placed 11th (First of two NCAA Division II teams). It was also the first meet for the Pioneers under the direction of head coach and Pioneer Hall of Famer
Norm Alston.
Below are some highlights from CSUEB men's track during the meet.
- Nine runners from CSUEB competed in the men's 800 meters. Placing second overall, finishing in one minute, 56.87 seconds was Dylan Gong, as he cracked the top-10 in Pioneer history for the event.
- Also finishing in the top-5 for the men's 800 meters were Aidan Singh (1:57.17) and Chas O'Bear (1:57.59).
- In his Pioneer debut on the track, Andrew Cape placed fourth in the men's 1,500 meters with a finish of 4:07.86.
The Pioneers return to Chabot College Track for their next meet this coming Friday for the West Coast Twilight.
