SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – On Thursday evening, the first matchup of the NorCal Classic for the Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team took place at Conlan Center. The Pioneers won their fourth consecutive match by defeating Dominican (Calif.) in three sets – 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
While the Pioneers found themselves trailing by as much as four points, a significant 11-1 run put Cal State East Bay ahead 17-11. Although the Penguins climbed back within three points, three consecutive points, capped off by a service ace from
Kara Green clinched set one in favor of the Pioneers, 25-19.
Set two had DU leading 17-15, but Cal State East Bay's 7-1 run set up an opportunity to win the set at 25-20.
Karis Carter made a kill for the 25
th point, as the Pioneers led 2-0 in sets.
Although DU lead at 16-12, a 9-1 run for the Pioneers eventually led to a 25-20 set win for the sweep. Match point was decided on a solo block from
Mia Jordan.
- Carter was outstanding offensively and defensively. She had a team-high nine kills (.412 attack percentage) and four total blocks.
- Megan Crecelius had three service aces on Thursday.
- Julianne Tan had 15 assists.
- For Cal State East Bay, it's the first four match win streak since early last season.

A quick turnaround takes place for the Pioneers, as they return to action Friday morning with their second match of the NorCal Classic. The first of two matches on Friday begins at 10:30 a.m. when Cal State East Bay matches up with Academy of Art. The day's second match for CSUEB is against Fresno Pacific with an opening serve scheduled for 5 p.m. Both Friday matches take place on the campus of Sonoma State University at The Wolves' Den.
