Pioneers Extend Win Streak to Six With a Pair of Victories on Friday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Following a quick turnaround from a victory on Thursday, the Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches by winning two on Friday in the NorCal Classic, improving to 6-1. The Pioneers won their morning match in three sets against Academy of Art, and followed up with a 3-1 win over Fresno Pacific in the evening.

MATCH ONE SUMMARY
 
Cal State East Bay 3, Academy of Art 0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-22)
With a dominant opening set, the Pioneers swept Academy of Art in three sets. Lexi Pagani had 10 kills and a .318 attack percentage in the match, and ultimately reached a double-double by adding a season-high 12 digs.
 
Julianne Tan had four service aces in the morning match, three of which were the final three points of the opening set.

MATCH TWO SUMMARY
 
Cal State East Bay 3, Fresno Pacific 1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-16)
Although the Pioneers dropped the opening set to FPU, they responded with the next three sets won on the way to a 3-1 victory to extend their winning streak to six matches.
 
Kara Green had a team-high 12 kills in the victory and a .300 attack percentage.
 
Defensively, Fane Paua had four total blocks and Taylor Miche had 17 digs.
 
As a team, the Pioneers had 18 total aces, the most for the program in at least the past 10 seasons, which surpasses the most recent high of 17 (in 2017) for a single match. Leading the team in aces was Megan Crecelius with six. Tiana Weeks added five and Tan duplicated her total from the day's earlier match with four. Green added a pair of aces and Pagani had one.

On Saturday, the final regular season non-conference match in 2022 for the Pioneers takes place from the Sonoma State campus when they take on Holy Names for the second time in as many weeks. Opening serve from The Wolves' Den takes place at 5 p.m. Cal State East Bay and HNU met on August 26, as the Hawks defeated the Pioneers in five sets.
