JOPLIN, Mo. – In a 5k run at Tom Rutledge Course, the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team competed in the Southern Stampede on Saturday morning. Among 26 teams in the University/Open 5k, the Pioneers finished tied for fifth in team points.
Here are some highlights for the Pioneers, with all times mentioned below cracking the top-15 5k times in Pioneer program history.
- Claire Fisher placed 20th overall with a time of 17:46.38, leading the Pioneers.
- Less than a second behind Fisher was Chase Worthen, placing 22nd at 17:47.22.
- Leza Cassidy placed 25th overall at 17:52.71, also in the top-15 in school.
"They all did amazing today," said Cal State East Bay assistant coach
Jordan Rodriguez. "Three women ran a top-15 all-time 5k for East Bay. As a team they placed well. We won a tiebreaker thanks to our sixth runner Melissa Sosa."
On Friday, October 7, the Pioneers run in their second meet of the season at Golden Gate Park in the SF State Invitational. Start time for the women's 6k run is set for 4:15 p.m.
