Pioneers Sweep Home Opener to Extend Win Streak to 10

HAYWARD, Calif. – A 10-game win streak was achieved on Thursday evening for the Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team with a three-set sweep (25-16, 25-23, 25-20) over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a CCAA matchup. The Pioneers came out with a win in their 2022 home opener.

SET SUMMARY

After the first point of the match went to the Toros, Cal State East Bay won the next seven points, then CSUDH answered with six of their own. Although both teams were fairly even early in the set, CSUEB built to a lead of as much as 10 points. The set finished with a kill from Mia Jordan, as the Pioneers won 25-16 for a 1-0 lead. Jordan's set clinching kill was one of five overall in the opening set. 

Although Cal State Dominguez Hills led by as much as five points at 11-6, the Pioneers scored eight straight with seven points off kills and one off a service ace from Kara Green. The Toros though battled back and even took a lead at 21-20. However, Cal State East Bay prevailed with a 25-23 set win for a 2-0 lead. Once again, Jordan finished the set with a kill. 

In set four, the Pioneers closed out the match with a 25-20 win. Match point was won on a service ace from Megan Crecelius as Cal State East Bay completed a 3-0 sweep off a set three win of 25-20.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Jordan had 13 kills as did Lexi Pagani on Thursday. 
  • Green finished with four aces. 
  • Defensively, Taylor Miche had 21 digs. 
  • At the net, Karis Carter had five total blocks. 
  • Of the 10 wins this season for the Pioneers, match point was won three times on service aces from Crecelius. 
  • The 10-match win streak for Cal State East Bay is the longest since 2008.
