ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday with a CCAA victory over No. RV Sonoma State in four sets (25-18, 15-25, 25-23, 25-14) at The Wolves' Den. It was the ninth straight win for the Pioneers and a 2-0 start in CCAA play.
Tied at 15-15 in set one, a block from
Karis Carter started an 8-1 run for Cal State East Bay. Although the Seawolves took two of the next three points, a kill from
Tiana Weeks sealed the opening set for the Pioneers.
Mia Jordan,
Lexi Pagani and Weeks each had three kills in the opening set.
Three separate runs of four unanswered points by the Seawolves eventually led to a 25-15 set win, evening the match at 1-1 in sets.
The Pioneers led by as much as seven points in the third set, but Sonoma State was within one point with CSUEB leading 21-20. Three of the next five points going to the Pioneers, set point was reached, and Weeks once again had a kill to win the set and lead 2-1.
Leading 18-14 in the fourth set, Cal State East Bay finished the match with seven straight points, capped off by the final two points on back-to-back kills from Jordan. The Pioneers won the set, 25-14 and ultimately the match, 3-1 in sets.
- Jordan had 10 kills with a .409 attack percentage. Her 118 kills on the season is fourth in the CCAA through Saturday and her overall attack percentage of .396 is second highest in the conference.
- Jordan also contributed defensively with five total blocks.
- One double double was reached – Megan Crecelius had 18 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
- Crecelius also had five service aces on Saturday.
- The nine match win streak is the first for the Pioneers goes back at least prior to the 2010 season. In 2010, East Bay started the season on an eight match win streak.
