SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball hit the road for a four-game CCAA series at Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes won the first game of the series 6-4.
The Coyotes would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning with three runs – two coming on a Kyle Csakan home run to left field and another run coming on a Derek Bogh solo home run to left field for a 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers scored a pair of runs in the top of the third on a Matthew O'Mahony single to left center to drive in Manny Garcia and Francisco Pedraza.
Ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third, the Coyotes added a run on Csakan double down the left field line that scored Giovanni Del Negro.
In the top of the seventh inning, Pedraza launched his 11th home run of the season, cutting CSUSB's lead to 4-3.
However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Coyotes would add two runs – one on a Garrett Macias home run to left field and one on an error that allowed Jake Borst to score for a 6-3 lead in favor of the Coyotes.
Although the Pioneers added a run in the top of the ninth on an O'Mahony RBI double to left center to drive in Garcia, the Coyotes retired the final batter for a 6-4 win to take the series opener.
in 4.0 innings of relief, Anthony Perez had three strikeouts while allowing two earned runs. Ryan Maciel, Luke Novitske and O'Mahony all went 3-5.
