Pioneers Sweep Series on Sunday with Walk-Off Victory over CSUDH

HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball finished up their four-game CCAA series on Sunday against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Pioneer Baseball Field. The Pioneers won their second game of the series with a walk-off win to sweep the series 4-0 with a 4-3 victory.

After four scoreless innings, the Pioneers struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Matthew O'Mahony RBI single to left field that scored Manny Garcia.

The Toros took a 2-1 lead on a Scott Ogrin two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Pioneers tied the game at 2-2 on a Garcia RBI single to left center that scored Matthew Mandeville.

The Toros would take the lead again in the top of the eighth inning on an Anthony Accordino RBI single to center field that scored Eric Smelko.

After Ryan Maciel reached base on an error, Cole Anderson entered as a pinch runner to represent the tying run in the bottom of the ninth for Cal State East Bay. A passed ball allowed Anderson to reach scoring position, then Samuel Esparza represnted the winning run, and singled as Anderson reached third base. Then, Jacob Klinovsky hit the game-winning pinch-hit double to left field that scored Anderson and Esparza to give the Pioneers a 4-3 win to sweep the series. 

In relief, Blake Campbell got the win for the Pioneers as he improves to 4-0. Tristin Tatum stated the game for the Pioneers and had four strikeouts in 6.0 innings on the mound. Garcia led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

With the series sweep, Cal State East Bay is tied for the sixth spot in the standings with Sonoma State at 16-16 each and trail the Toros by only one game. 

Cal State East Bay head coach Mike Cummins follwing the victory:
"Another great team win, Tatum pitched very well. Our next man up mentality this weekend was awesome to see, two true freshmen with walk off hits."

The Pioneers will hit the road for their next CCAA series against CSU San Bernardino. First pitch of the series opener this coming Friday is set for 6 p.m. from Fiscalini Field.
