RESULTS
HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay track and field teams had several strong individual performances on Saturday at the West Coast Opener at Chabot College and hosted by Saint Mary's College.
"It is still extremely early in the season, but this little team is positioning themselves to have some incredible performances and compete at the top of their events at the conference championships," said Cal State East Bay head coach
Tony Nicolosi. "We are working extremely hard, and it is showing, with many personal bests. We are looking forward to running some really fast 5000s next weekend at Occidental."
Chase Worthen had ran a personal best in the 1500 en route to placing second behind a time of 4-minutes, 46.09-seconds, while
Claire Fisher earned third overall with a time of 4:47.03 in her first appearance on the track in two years.
Amanda Navarro (4:48.96),
Kimberly Lima (4:53.69) and
Melissa Jovanna Sosa (4:57.04) finished fourth, seventh and ninth respectively in the 1500, as each recorded personal-best times.
Leza Cassidy had a good performance in the 3000 early in the day, posting a personal-best time of 10:25.72 to finish ninth overall.
Ariel Van Riper also ran a personal best to place 19th overall in 11:04.08.
Ashley Trout earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 behind a time of 29.56, while
Veronica Valenton dropped three seconds off her time in the 800 from the season-opening meet two weeks ago to take sixth overall in 2:25.13.
On the men's side, Nicolosi described
John Robert Bradshaw as the performer of the meet, as the Ontario native place eighth overall in the 3000 with a personal-best time of 8:43.06. It was a 29-second improvement from the season-opening meet two weeks ago.
"This is one of the hardest working guys I have coached in my time at East Bay, and we have been talking for so long about how he is going to finally have a breakout performance, and it happened today," said Nicolosi. "I'm extremely proud of John."
Aidan Singh placed third overall in the 1500 after recording a personal-best time of 4:00.27.
Julian Johnson finished right behind in fourth with a personal-best time of 4:00.6, while
Richard Mckain (4:00.95) was fifth and and
Luke Calubayan took seventh overall (4:11.82).
CSUEB resumes action next week at the Oxy Distance Carnival hosted by Occidental College on Saturday, March 12.
