Pioneers Fall Short in Series Finale at Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay baseball team fell short in this weekend's conference opening series finale on Sunday afternoon against Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-2.

Manny Garcia went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Matthew O'Mahony had an RBI single in the sixth and Tommy Scavone had one hit and an RBI.

Starting pitcher Ethan Brodsky (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and striking out two in six innings pitched.

East Bay trailed 2-0 in the first and fell behind by four in the fourth, but Scavone's sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Luke Novitske and cut the Pioneers' deficit to 4-2.

CSUEB (8-6, 1-3 CCAA) takes next weekend off before resuming conference play at home against Sonoma State on Friday, March 11, beginning at 2 p.m.
