Pioneers Look to Stay Hot in Final Home Games of 2021-22

HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team looks to maintain its momentum in its final two home games of the 2021-22 season this week, as the Pioneers play host to rival SF State on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m., before taking on Cal State Monterey Bay for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 19, beginning at 3 p.m.

Both contests will be streamed live on CCAA Network, and live stats will be available.

CSUEB (8-12, 6-8 CCAA) has won four-consecutive games and is now seventh in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings. SF State (11-12, 8-8) is sixth in the standings and Monterey Bay (12-5, 11-3) is currently third. The top six teams qualify for the CCAA Tournament beginning on March 3.

The Pioneers have won three of their last five meetings against SF State, and has won seven of their last eight matchups against Monterey Bay.

East Bay is coming off two road wins last week, as the Pioneers defeated Sonoma State on Feb. 10, 80-69, before earning a dramatic triple overtime victory against Cal Poly Humboldt on Feb. 12, 86-84.

Junior guard Zack Perlstein scored a career-high 25 points in both wins, en route to being named CCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 15. Senior forward Justin Vigil scored 20 points and made a 3-pointer at the buzzer from the left corner to propel CSUEB to the triple overtime victory at Cal Poly Humboldt.

The Pioneers have the CCAA's fifth-best scoring offense, averaging 73.4 points per game, and have made the most 3-point field goals in the conference with 184 (9.2 per game). In addition, East Bay is second in the conference in assists per game (14.6), second in free-throw shooting (.732) and fifth in 3-point field-goal percentage (.339).

Junior guard Jesse Galloway ranks fourth in the conference in assists per game (3.8) and has the CCAA's second-best assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3).
