HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay baseball team came out strong offensively and got another good start from sophomore
Ethan Brodsky in a home victory over Holy Names, 11-2, on Friday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Brodsky pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out five. He was helped by the Pioneers' offense, as CSUEB scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and maintained control throughout the game.
Junior centerfielder Essex Brown Jr. went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base, sophomore first baseman
Matthew O'Mahony continued his strong start to the season by going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while freshman shortstop
Donovan Bailey went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Austin Alvarez also had two RBI for CSUEB (3-2), as his two-RBI single in the first inning to put the Pioneers ahead 4-0. Bailey followed with an RBI single to center, and Brown Jr.'s RBI single to right capped off the big opening inning.
East Bay continues this week's series against Holy Names (4-2) on Saturday, as the Pioneers play a road doubleheader against the Hawks at College of Alameda Baseball Field beginning at 12 p.m.
