SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team returned to winning form on Thursday evening with sweep of Cal State San Marcos, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-19).
A majority of the set one lead was held and maintained by the Pioneers, as they cruised to a 25-14 opening set win.
Lexi Pagani had five kills and the Pioneers as a team had a .464 attack percentage in the set.
The Cougars led by as many as seven points in the second set. But a run of eight unanswered put Cal State East Bay ahead 17-16 after a kill from
Taumafa Tuinauvai. The Pioneers reached set point at 24-19, but four unanswered points by the Cougars brought them within a point. However, CSUEB closed out the set with a kill from
Kara Green as the Pioneers led 2-0 in sets.
Although set three had moments in which the Cougars were within a point, Cal State East Bay led for most of the set. Pagani had six kills in the third set, and the match was closed out on a kill from Green to complete the three set sweep.
- Pagani had a team-high 13 kills and a .310 attack percentage.
- Green had her fifth double double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs. It was the first time this season she had a double double in a three set match.
- Defensively, Karis Carter had four total blocks and Ali Santoyo had 14 digs.
