WAIMEA, Hawaii – The 2022 fall season came to a close on Saturday for the Cal State East Bay women's golf team, as the Pioneers finished in 10
th place among 16 teams in the Dennis Rose Invitational, which was played at Hapuna Beach Course.
Drishti Karumbaya finished in a second place tie on the leaderboard at even par 144 (73-71). She had five birdies and 27 even par holes among the 36 played.
Additional highlights for the Pioneers from the tournament included:
- A nine stroke improvement from round one to round two for Jasmin Krishna. She finished with 24 even par holes.
- A four stroke improvement from first to second round for Arrianna Custodio.
- A team-high seven birdies for Mandi Granato.
"We had another mediocre showing, this time at Hapuna [Golf Course]," stated Cal State East Bay head coach
Alan Sue. "Drishti single-handedly kept our team afloat. Out third and fourth counting scores are just too high for us to contend at the moment. We now have almost four months before we compete again and it couldn't come at a better time. There's a lot of work to be done in the offseason. We did have another bright spot today as Jasmin had her best round of the year. We'll need more like that from her and the others if we are to get to the postseason. This team is talented but that alone won't get us to where we want to go which is the [NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships]."
Cal State San Marcos won the team championship of the tournament while Brady Turnquist of Biola was the individual medalist with a finish of 2-under-par 142 (71-71).
The 2022 fall season has concluded for the Cal State East Bay women's golf team. The Pioneers return to action on February 20-21, 2023 when they compete in the Bay Area Invitational at Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore.
