Worthen Leads Pioneers at NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - On Saturday morning, the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team got a preview of the course that will be the site of the 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Chase Worthen was the Pioneers' top finisher in the Women's Division II 6k run at Chambers Creek Regional Park, with a 19th place finish among 236 entries. 

Worthen completed the course in 21 minutes, 41.3 seconds. 

As a team, the Pioneers finished 5th among 29 teams. 

Additional highlights for the Pioneers include:
  • A 24th place finish for Claire Fisher, in a time of 21:51.2. 
  • Not far behind Fisher was Leza Cassidy, who placed 28th overall in 21:53.9. 
  • Reaching a personal best 6k time of 23:01.1 was Alyssa Escay
Colorado School of Mines was the team champion, with four top-10 finishes. The top individual finisher was Naomi Bailey, who had a 6k time of 20:46.1. 

With the 2022 regular season concluding for Cal State East Bay, the next meet for the Pioneers is the CCAA Championships, taking place on Saturday, November 5 at Palo Corona Cross Country Trail in Carmel, California. Start time for the women's 6k is set for 10 a.m.
