HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team won its fourth consecutive match on Saturday evening, 3-1 (25-12, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22) over Cal State Monterey Bay in CCAA action from Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Pioneers had a .400 attack percentage in the opening set. A block by
Lexi Pagani and
Karis Carter closed out the set for a 25-12 win.
Cal State East Bay took the first nine points of set two, and did not look back. Through two sets,
Kara Green had eight kills with 18 attempts and no errors. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead with a set two win of 25-15.
Needing to win set three to prolong the match, the Otters demonstrated the urgency by taking an early lead in the set, including 18-13. A run by the Pioneers, capped off by a kill from Carter evened the set at 18-18. Both teams battled evenly and forced extra points at the set reached 24-24 on a kill from
Alexandria Gloria. However, kills by Lauren Reeves and Mikayla Nolte led to a 26-24 set three win for the Otters.
Set four remained close throughout, and had CSUMB up 19-18. But a four point run by the Pioneers, followed by three straight points for the Otters led to a 22-22 score. Cal State East Bay took the next three points, as match point was won on a kill from
Mia Jordan to give the Pioneers a 3-1 win on Saturday.
- Kara Green had a double-double, leading the Pioneers in kills (16) and digs (18) on Saturday. It was her seventh double-double of the season and third in the last four matches.
- Lexi Pagani had four service aces.
- With a season-high 40 assists was Megan Crecelius.
- Green and Carter each had four total blocks.
- Ali Santoyo matched a season-high in digs with 23.
- The Pioneers have reached 16 wins on the season for the first time since 2018 and with a 9-3 conference record, are tied for third place in the CCAA standings through Saturday.
