HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team won its third straight match on Thursday night in front of a home crowd at Pioneer Gymnasium, as the Pioneers swept San Francisco State, 3-0 (30-28, 25-22, 25-21).
Extra points were needed in set one. Although set point was available for the Gators ahead 28-27, the Pioneers took the next three points unanswered, capped off by a service ace from
Alexandria Gloria. As a team, the Pioneers had a .385 attack percentage in the opening set.
Set two was also close, but did not need extra points. With four lead changes, the Pioneers took control late in the set, breaking a 19-19 tie on a kill from Gloria. Cal State East Bay did not look back, and went ahead 2-0 in sets with a 25-22 win with set point won on a kill from
Lexi Pagani.
After
Alyssa Zaragoza served the first of two service aces in set three for an early 2-1 lead for CSUEB, the Pioneers didn't look back in the set. Although SF State made multiple runs to close deficits, including one point with the Pioneers leading 22-21, the final three points went to CSUEB with a kill from
Kara Green, a block by Pagani and an unforced error from SF State to close the match and secure the sweep for the Pioneers.
- With three straight 3-0 victories for the Pioneers, nine straight sets won has not happened for the program since early in the 2021 season.
- Green picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Her attack percentage was the highest on the team at .429.
- Also with 13 digs for CSUEB was Ali Santoyo.
- With a team-high 15 kills on Thursday was Pagani.
- The 32 assists for Megan Crecelius were her season-high for all matches played in three sets.
- Pagani and Zaragoza had a pair of service aces each.
- At the net, Karis Carter had four total blocks.
