HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team collected their fourth consecutive top five finish of the season after placing fourth overall at the Sonoma State Spring Invite at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.
 
The Pioneers held the overall lead after the first day of competition with a total team score of 279. But the Pios ultimately fell short by just four stokes to tournament champion Academy of Art.  Individually every Pioneer golfer finished in the top 25 as they combined to finish with a score of 291 on the final day of the event.
 
Sophomore Ryan Hong continued his hot swing, after placing first in the team's last tournament, by tying for fourth with a score of 141. For Hong, this was his second consecutive top 5 finish as he tallied the second best score of the 69 out of all participants on Tuesday.
 
Xavier Coreno put together his best performance of the season scoring a 142 to finish tied for eighth overall. Coreno got off to a blazing hot start with a 68 on the opening day of the event. For Coreno, this was his second top 10 finish of the season.
 
Fraser Owenson finished just three strokes behind Coreno scoring a 145 which tied for 14th overall. Owenson scored a 71 on the first day of the tournament and followed with a score of 74 to conclude to invite on the par 72 course.
 
Tommy Jernigan tied for 17th overall after finishing just one stroke behind teammate Fraser Owenson with a score of 146. Jernigan went par to open play in the tournament and complied a 74 on the final day of the event.
 
Aaron Lee finished tied for 22nd at the tournament after tying for the Pioneers best score of 68 on Monday. Lee's final score of 148 was his best so far on the season.
 
The Pioneers have concluded their regular season schedule and finished in the top five in all of their tournaments this season. Next up for East Bay is the NCAA West Regionals May 6-8 at the Olympia Country and Golf Course in Olympia, Wash.
