AKUMAL, Mexico – The Cal State East Bay men's golf team finished tied for fifth at the 2026 DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya, completing the three-round tournament at 52-over-par with a team score of 916.
The Pioneers opened with a 318 before making a major move in the second round, improving by 26 strokes to card a 292, their best team round of the tournament. East Bay closed with a 306 in Tuesday's final round to finish tied with Western New Mexico in the 10-team field.
Cooper Groshart, Oscar Blomqvist and Filip Stigeberg each finished with three-round totals of 230 (+14) to lead East Bay.
Groshart posted rounds of 75, 77 and 78, while Blomqvist turned in rounds of 79, 75 and 76. Stigeberg followed an opening-round 80 with the Pioneers' lowest individual round of the tournament, firing a one-under-par 71 in the second round before closing with a 79.
Nathaniel Frink finished at 232 (+16), bouncing back from an opening-round 84 with a 73 in the second round and a 75 in the final round.
Anthony Nilson joined the East Bay lineup for the final two rounds and made an immediate impact, carding a 73 in the second round before closing with a 77.
East Bay's second-round 292 highlighted the three-day tournament, led by Stigeberg's one-under 71 along with 73s from Frink and Nilson and a 75 from Blomqvist.
The Pioneers finished the tournament tied for fifth at 916 (+52), wrapping up three days of competition at the par-72, 6,980-yard Tulum Country Club at PGA Riviera Maya.
