Groshart Leads Pioneers to Third-Place Tie at Wildcat Classic

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — A pair of top-10 individual finishes highlighted Cal State East Bay men's golf's season-opening performance at the Wildcat Classic, as the Pioneers finished tied for third at 28-under par Tuesday at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club.

Cooper Groshart led East Bay with a fourth-place tie at 10-under 206, while Nathaniel Frink joined him inside the top 10 with a seventh-place tie at 8-under 208.

Groshart remained under par in all three rounds, opening with a 3-under 69 before carding a 4-under 68 in the second round and another 69 to close the tournament. Frink followed an opening-round 72 with consecutive rounds of 4-under 68.

East Bay was 6-under after the opening round before producing its best team score of the tournament in Round 2 at 13-under. The Pioneers added a 9-under final round to complete the 54-hole event at 28-under, tying Cal State Monterey Bay for third.

Oscar Blomqvist added a top-25 finish for East Bay, tying for 21st at 4-under 212 after rounds of 71, 69 and 72. Anthony Nilson tied for 25th at 2-under 214 with rounds of 70, 70 and 74, while Filip Stigeberg closed with his best round of the tournament, a 2-under 70, to tie for 28th at 1-under 215.

Three additional Pioneers competed as individuals. Cambron Nevill tied for 28th at 1-under 215, Daniel Weiland tied for 40th at 2-over 218 and Adam Brangefalt tied for 51st at 5-over 221.

East Bay finished six strokes behind second-place Stanislaus State, while Chico State captured the team title at 42-under.

Cal State East Bay returns to competition Sept. 27-29 at the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo, Mexico, at PGA at Riviera Maya.
