HAYWARD, Calif., -- Cal State East Bay sophomore men's golfer
Ryan Hong claimed his individual first tournament championship of the season at the Academy of Art Invitational at the Silverado Resort in Napa. He finished in a three-way tie for first with Devin Gregg and Thomas Jenkins, both from Sonoma State. Hong was award the overall victory after finishing with the lowest final round score of 70.
Overall the Pioneers finished second as a team just three strokes behind first place Sonoma State. In all, all six Pioneers finished inside the top 20 overall led by Hong as East Bay notched their third consecutive top five team finish of the 2021 spring season.
Freshman
Aaron Lee captured his first career top five placement as he finished tied for fourth overall with a score of 152. Junior transfers
Tommy Jernigan and
Xavier Coreno, who competed as an individual, tied for seventh overall finishing just one stroke behind Lee with a score of 153.
Sophomore
Moses Greene claimed his third consecutive top 10 finish after tying for ninth place with a score of 154, just one stroke shy of Jernigan and Coreno. Fellow sophomore
Fraser Owenson notched a total score of 161 which was good for 18 overall.
Below are CSUEB's final individual scores. The team now has just one final regular season tournament hosted by Sonoma State at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club before the NCCA West Regional Championships.
