East Bay Men Finish 4th at Pioneer Invitational

Moses Greene notches second consecutive top-10 finish

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team was back in action as they tied for fourth at the annual Pioneer Shootout this week. This year the Pioneer Shootout was hosted by Holy Names at Corica South Golf Course in Alameda on Monday and Tuesday, March 15 and 16.
 
Overall the Pioneers shot 603 as a team, which tied Regis University and was just four strokes behind third place finisher Western New Mexico. After shooting a 304 on Monday's opening round, CSUEB improved to shoot a 299 during Tuesday's final round.
 
Sophomore Moses Greene continued his hot swing to the season notching his second consecutive top-10 finish after tying for 9th overall. Greene opened the tourney shooting a 77 and improved six strokes to shoot a 71 in the final round to finish with a score of 148 for the event.
 
Fellow sophomore Ryan Hong finished just one stroke behind Greene scoring a 149 for the tournament and complied an 11th place showing. Hong shot the Pioneers best round on Monday with a 71 before wrapping up the final round with a 78 to close the tourney.
 
Xavier Coreno and Tommy Jernigan collected top-25 finishes for the Pioneers as Coreno tied for 22nd overall with a score 153 while Jernigan tied for a 24th scoring a 154. Coreno and Jernigan both shot a 75 on Tuesday's final round, which tied for the third best for the Pioneers on the day. Coreno opened the tourney with a score of 78 and Jernigan shot a score of 79.
 
Fraser Owenson tied for 33rd at the Pioneer Shootout after scoring a 78 on Monday and an 81 on Tuesday, respectively. Owenson finished with a score of 159 overall.
 
Aaron Lee also competed in the tournament for the Pioneers but as an individual, meaning that his score did not go to the cumulative total for the East Bay. Lee tied for 30th after scoring a 156 total over the two days. Lee shot a 74 on Tuesday which was the Pioneers second best scoring round of the day.
 
The Pioneers will be off for a week before returning to action for the ART U Invitational on March 29-30 at the Silverado Resort in Napa, CA.
