HAYWARD, Calif. — Fresh off a shut-out victory for its first win of the season, the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team looks to keep its momentum going this week in a pair of home contests at Pioneer Stadium.
CSUEB plays host to Holy Names on Thursday, Sept. 19, beginning at 4:30 p.m., and takes on Menlo College on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Admission is free to both games, while a live stream and live stats will also be available.
The Pioneers defeated Texas Permian Basin, 3-0, on Sept. 15 behind one goal apiece from the freshmen trio of
Mateo Didomenico,
Zack Mason and
Trevor Brown. Didomenico and Mason also recorded one assist, as did fellow freshman
Ishmam Rahman.
CSUEB had a 12-9 edge in corner kicks, while sophomore goalkeeper
Juan Diego Escalante played all 90 minutes in the net and finished with seven saves.
Cal State East Bay (1-2) is 3-1 all-time against Holy Names (2-2), and has won three-consecutive home contests in the series. The Pioneers have outscored the Hawks by a total of 7-1 in the last three meetings, including a 2-1 victory last season.
CSUEB and Menlo College (4-1) have split two matchups all-time, with the Pioneers winning the last meeting in 2007, 2-1.
Following this week's action, the Pioneers begin California College Athletic Association (CCAA) play at home next week against UC San Diego on Sept. 27 and Cal State San Marcos on Sept. 29.
