RICHARDSON, Texas — Cal State East Bay wrapped up its season-opening trip to Texas with a 3-1 loss to UT Dallas on Saturday evening at the UTD Soccer Complex.
The Pioneers created opportunities from the opening stages, generating six shots and five corner kicks during the first half.
Alejandro Zarate put East Bay's first shot on goal in the 15th minute, forcing a save, but UT Dallas responded less than two minutes later. Avery Brazzell broke through in the 16th minute to give the Comets a 1-0 advantage.
East Bay continued to push for an equalizer before halftime. Noel Cabrales and Caleb Yoon each generated attempts, while Miguel Moreno came close to leveling the match when his shot struck the woodwork in the 41st minute.
The Pioneers didn't have to wait long after halftime to find the equalizer.
Jefferson Parada scored on a free kick in the 50th minute to pull East Bay even at 1-1. The goal was the Pioneers' first of the 2026 season.
With the match level, East Bay continued to stay in the contest before UT Dallas regained the lead in the 66th minute on a goal from Seb Martinez.
The Pioneers looked for another response, with Juan Contreras Ruiz recording an attempt in the 71st minute, but the Comets added an insurance goal in the 84th to make it 3-1.
Adan Corona played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves. East Bay finished with nine shots, two on goal and seven corner kicks, while UT Dallas recorded 11 shots, five on target and five corners.
Parada accounted for East Bay's goal on his only shot of the match, while Zarate recorded the Pioneers' other shot on goal. Guilherme Azevedo finished with two shots.
Cal State East Bay moves to 0-2 on the season following its two-match trip to Texas.
