HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team will take their first road trip of the 2019 regular season with a pair of contests against West Region opponents in Central Washington on Thursday afternoon and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. Both games will take place in Nampa, Idaho at NNU Soccer Field.

The Cal State East Bay opened the 2019 season with a pair of home loss Notre Dame De Namur and played to a scoreless draw to Hawai'i Hilo.
The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a tough 4-2 defeat to Notre Dame De Namur Thursday night inside Pioneer Stadium.
It was an action packed opening game of the season as both teams scoring two goals apiece before the halftime intermission. The Argonauts scored the first goal of the outing as Samantha Sanchez put in a shot in the 20th minute to give NDNU a 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later, the Pioneers scored their first goal of the 2019 season as junior
Riley Spitzer turned in her first career goal as a Pioneer. Spitzer put in a shot on a well placed pass by senior
Chace Miguel.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Smith got the start in the goalie box for the Pioneers and tallied a career best six saves through 90 minutes of action.
Late in the first half, Cal State East Bay took their only lead of the evening as junior connection of
Lauren McDougal and
Riley Spitzer made an appearance. McDougal scored her first goal on the year in the 41st minute as she put a
Riley Spitzer pass into the back of the net.
Spitzer finished her first career game in Hayward with a goal and an assist.
Lauren McDougal added a goal of her own and
Chace Miguel compiled an assist.
But Notre Dame De Namur would respond with a goal of their own just before halftime to knot the game at 2-2 headed into the intermission. Ellie Mujushi scored a goal on an assist from Susan Whitney.
The game would be a back-and-forth affair in the second half as both teams traded shots and possession of the ball. It was not until midway through the final half of action the Notre Dame De Namur seized control of the game. The Argonauts notched two goals in the within five minutes of game time to pull off the 4-2 victory.
The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team closed their season opening home stand with a, 0-0 draw against the Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans on Monday afternoon, September 9 at Pioneer Stadium.
With the scoreless draw the Pioneers move to 0-1-1 record on the year. It was CSUEB's first contest of the season to go into extra minutes and just the first match of the season in which they failed to score a goal.
East Bay held the shot advantage over the Hawai'i Hilo by a count of 21 to 13. 10 HHU's shots came on goal to just eight shots on goal from CSUEB.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Smith was a tough presence in the box for the Pioneers. Smith, a native of Garderville, racked up a career best 10 saves in the shutout draw as she logged all 110 minutes of the match.
Junior
Riley Spitzer paced the Pioneers with eight shots who two shots on goals that were inches away from becoming points for CSUEB. Seniors
Chace Miguel and
Bri Vallente both chipped in four shots apiece with both getting two shots on the goal each.
Annika Blom and
Jordan Lemieux both attempted two shots each for East Bay. Both of Blom's shots came on goal.
Lauren McDougal finished the contest with one shot attempt.
PIONEER POINTS
East Bay is off to an 0-1-1 start to the season. The Pioneers scoreless double overtime draw against the Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans was CSUEB's first contest of the season to go into extra minutes and just the first match of the season in which they failed to score a goal.

Riley Spitzer is second in the CCAA is shots (12), eighth in points (3) and tied for eighth in assists (1) with teammate
Chace Miguel.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Smith leads the conference in saves (16) and saves per game (8.00).
SCOUTING CENTRAL WASHINGTON
The Central Washington Wildcats are currently 1-1 on the season after defeating Fresno Pacific, 2-1 in their season opener before falling to Cal State San Marcos, 0-1 to conclude the weekend. Maci Parke and Sydney Lowe both lead the Wildcats with one goal and two points each. Bryn Waite has one assist on the year. Megan Fox leads CWU with four saves and Emily Thompson has racked up three saves on the season.
SCOUTING NORTHWEST NAZARNE
The Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks have begun the 2019 season with a 1-1 record after falling to Cal State Monterey Bay, 0-1 before bouncing back to defeat Holy Names, 2-0 to wrap up the weekend. Brooke Felzien and McKenzie Buell lead the Nighthawks with one goal each. Felzien also has the teams lone assist and is tops on the team with three points. Alexis Montoya lead NNU with five saves.
